Leadership Team

Sarah Chen

Executive Director & Founder

Sarah founded Leftover Merg in 2018 after witnessing the disconnect between food waste and hunger during her work in international development. With 15 years of experience in nonprofit leadership and a Master's in Public Health, she leads our organization's strategic vision and growth initiatives.

Dr. Marcus Johnson

Director of Healthcare Programs

Dr. Johnson brings 20 years of experience in community medicine and public health to oversee our healthcare initiatives. He previously served as Chief Medical Officer for rural health clinics and holds certifications in family medicine and public health administration.

Elena Rodriguez

Director of Education Programs

Elena has dedicated her career to educational equity and access. With a PhD in Education Policy and 12 years of experience developing programs for underserved communities, she ensures our educational initiatives create lasting learning opportunities.

James Thompson

Operations & Logistics Director

James manages our food recovery and distribution networks across multiple regions. His background in supply chain management and logistics optimization ensures efficient operations that maximize food rescue while minimizing waste and costs.

Dr. Amira Hassan

Research & Impact Director

Dr. Hassan leads our data collection and impact measurement efforts. With a PhD in Social Research Methods and expertise in program evaluation, she ensures we can demonstrate concrete results and continuously improve our effectiveness.

Program Teams

Food Recovery & Distribution Team

Our food recovery specialists work directly with restaurants, grocery stores, farms, and food producers to establish donation protocols and coordinate collection schedules. They manage our fleet of refrigerated vehicles and oversee quality control processes that ensure food safety throughout the recovery chain.

Education Support Team

Teachers, tutors, and education coordinators who design and deliver our learning programs. This team includes specialists in adult literacy, early childhood development, vocational training, and digital literacy. They work closely with schools and community centers to expand educational access.

Healthcare Outreach Team

Nurses, health educators, and community health workers who staff our mobile clinics and coordinate health screenings. This team also includes mental health counselors and health promotion specialists who conduct workshops and educational sessions.

Technology & Innovation Team

Software developers, data analysts, and digital strategists who maintain our technology platforms and develop new tools for program efficiency. They create mobile apps for volunteer coordination, data dashboards for impact tracking, and communication systems for partner collaboration.

Community Engagement Team

Community organizers and outreach specialists who build relationships with local organizations, recruit volunteers, and ensure our programs meet community needs. They facilitate community meetings, organize events, and serve as liaisons between Leftover Merg and the communities we serve.
